10th July 2023

Smallbrook Sports Day 2023

Why don’t ghost like rain? … Because it dampens their spirits (queue laughter). But that was not the case for our amazing students at our annual sports day! This year, for the very first time, we took our event overseas to the athletic track at the Oakengates Leisure Centre. Spirits were sky high as we kicked off the day with a rendition of God Save The King, followed by an opening ceremony lap around the track. This year additional points were up for grabs in three categories: sportsmanship, creativity and enthusiasm. My word we had that in abundance as our young people showed off their artistic skills with their signs and posters, supporting each other throughout the day and working their socks off in all the events.

We couldn’t help but laugh at the irony of rain on sports day, as if the heavens themselves were testing their resilience. But let me tell you, our students took it all in stride. They truly surpassed themselves, leaving us in awe with their remarkable performances. From the track to the field, they displayed unwavering dedication, teamwork and a don’t give up attitude that embodies the spirit of sportsmanship.

We would like to especially thank the dedicated teachers and staff for helping run the event and ensuring it ran as well as it could have. In conclusion, this sports day will be remembered not only for the incredible achievements of our students but also the way they embraced the day with a smile. Rain or shine, our students proved that true champions rise above all obstacles.
