We aim to meet the individual needs of all our students, with an integral part of this being preparing our students for either further education, the world of work or life after school. This means building a strong core curriculum that includes qualifications that cater for all abilities. Qualifications range from Entry level, functional skills to GCSE. The variety of courses delivered helps all our students achieve their personal aspirations and goals. Our students are amazing individuals; therefore, it is imperative that we offer a wide range of qualifications and possible pathways for each student.
Smallbrook has an extensive vocational offer. The main purpose of our vocational education is to provide all students with the required knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in a particular career or trade. All our vocational subjects allow our students to understand themselves better and develop their own personal capabilities. Students also acquire the skills necessary to make realistic decisions, informed choices about their own career paths. Subjects chosen can also be continued Post sixteen either here at Smallbrook, at college or with a recognised apprenticeship provider. So, all students leaving will be fully prepared for their next level of study.
To aid the personal development of our students and help build the basis for their future careers, during Key Stage four, each student will have access to a robust career education program. Smallbrook’s career education and guidance is fundamental in preparing our students for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of life after school. During their time at the school, students will be supported by the school’s dedicated careers department and complete an accredited employability qualification. Students can access advice and support from an independent career advisor and complete a work experience placement linked directly to their chosen pathway. Students also have access to two yearly in-house careers fairs that welcomes employers from leading industries, apprenticeship providers and local colleges and Universities. Those students who choose to continue their studies with us throughout post sixteen have access to a full life skills package. This package is designed to fully prepare our students for independence.
