CHINESE NEW YEAR

This week Smallbrook celebrated Chinese New Year in STYLE! Our fabulous English teacher Vanessa and Personal Development Lead Zoe planned a fun packed day of all things Chinese!

Students and staff had the chance to learn about Chinese culture throughout a variety of planned activities across the school. They learnt about the the oldest continuously used writing system in the world, Hanzi, looking at Chinese characters and how they are used to illustrate meaning rather than sound. They had the chance to perfect the art of Chinese ribbon dancing, also known as the Dunhuang dance and be part of the famous Dragon dance. Staff and students practised using chop sticks! and creating their very own Chinese masks!

Finally Sara and Si (School cooks) planned and prepared the most amazing banquet of Chinese food for all to enjoy! Dim sum, spring rolls, Baozi, fried rice, wonton soup and salt and pepper chips! Students througoully enjoyed every single elemnt of the day and left with a more enrichmet understanding and love for all things Chinese.
