UP AN AT EM!

Some of our students attended a school trip to Up An At Em History where they tried and tested arms and armour and learnt about Medieval warfare where they were able to observe weapons across the spectrum of soldiers and why they were used on the battlefield. Students also learnt about health and medicine in the middle ages, year 7 students have completed work on life in the middle ages during their history lessons, including features of castle and sieges and the black death. Students were able to witness how the trebuchet worked, catapult a fort set up and use foam weapons and plastic bows in a siege.

The trip also allowed those students studying in other subjects the chance to develop their knowledge and understanding of key points being delivered throughout topics.

Throughout English, year 7 students have been studying War horse, the trip developed students understanding of battles and develop their empathy for struggles of a soldier and visualise a battlefield setting. Also in English, Year 7 students have completed work on Myths and legends, the trip allowed students to understand and visualise the tales of King Arthur.

Throughout their Art lessons, year 8 students have studied architecture, and within this unit they have looked at the artist John Piper who captured buildings during times of war and conflict. The trip allowed students to discover different types of buildings both modern and historic. Students will be able to apply their knowledge on the middle ages from the workshop to historical architecture.

Our year 9 Digital Media students attended the trip to practice their camera skills e.g. framing and shooting. Students are currently learning about camera angles and movement, the trip enabled them to practice finding their angles and perfecting camera movement.
