On Thursday 10th July, Smallbrook students took part in a trip that combined fun with real-world learning, giving students the opportunity to apply key mathematical concepts in everyday settings.
At the go-karting track, students got competitive and used their skills and mathematical knowledge to race around the track to complete this in the fastest time. The students listened well to the debrief and followed instructions whilst out on the track. When the race had finished, the students used the speedβdistanceβtime formula to calculate average speeds and assessed the performance data to find the overall top 3 racers of the day.
At McDonald’s, students used budgeting by selecting meals within a set budget. This experience reinforced concepts like unit conversion, data handling, and money management while engaging students in hands-on, practical maths.
The students had the best time!
