Smallbrookers preparing for the world of work
Our school offers an engaging careers curriculum which meets the differing needs and requirements of all our students. This is developed throughout a student’s time at the school and is always supportive of their abilities, strengths, and skills.
The purpose of careers education is to:
- Prepare our students for the transition to life after Smallbrook School
- Support students in making informed decisions which are appropriate for them.
- Provide students with well-rounded experiences.
- Develop personal characteristics such as social skills, communication, independence and resilience.
- Inspire and motivate students to develop themselves as individuals and live as independently as is possible
One of the key areas we have excelled in this year is work experience. Students have had first-hand experiences of a chosen workplace, completing a month-long placement, attending one day per week. Two of the most recent successful placements have been at the Halfway House Garage in Shrewsbury and Tanat Valley Light Railway in Oswestry.
