Today, Liam Tuohy came to Smallbrook School to talk about living with ADHD and to deliver a boxing workshop.
Liam has struggled with ADHD his whole life but was only diagnosed at the age of 35, after years of getting into trouble with the law and being unable to hold down a job. Now, he is on a mission to raise awareness of ADHD so others can get the help they need and avoid the suffering he endured.Having always been a fitness fanatic, Liam found an escape through boxing and went on to become a professional fighter for over 14 years. After being officially diagnosed and receiving the support he so desperately needed, Liam’s life began to change for the better. He has since attended numerous business meetings to expand his knowledge and grow both personally and professionally.
Although it took many years, Liam has found his purpose and passion in life: helping others. He now travels the UK raising awareness of ADHD and is committed to getting people into the best shape of their life — both mentally and physically. At school, Liam was often taken out of class because he was behind with his learning. Unlike his classmates, he couldn’t tell the time on a normal clock. He was also very disruptive and was expelled from school several times, which acted as a precursor to getting into trouble with the law as an adult. He narrowly escaped prison on multiple occasions. Little did anyone know that Liam’s lack of concentration in school and work was the result of undiagnosed ADHD.
To channel his energy into something positive, Liam took up boxing — a move that transformed his life. Since beginning ADHD medication, he has completely turned things around and even started his own fitness company, 2Tuff Health and Fitness — a mobile personal training business. During today’s visit, our students showed excellent listening skills and asked Liam thoughtful questions. They all took part in the boxing workshop, learning the basics and pushing themselves. Many overcame their fears around speaking openly about ADHD, sharing their experiences, and trying something new.
